Stefan Core Balanced Current Transformers & Earth Leakage Relays

Stefan Electric's earth leakage protection pairs a core balanced current transformer (CBCT) with a configurable earth leakage relay (ELR). The CBCT senses the vector-sum current through all conductors passing through its aperture; any imbalance caused by a leakage path is picked up by the relay, which trips at a set threshold after a configurable delay.

CBCTs are available in a range of aperture sizes from 35mm up to 310mm round, plus rectangular formats, so the same protection scheme scales from single feeders to large busbar runs and cable bundles.

What does a core balanced current transformer do?
It measures the vector sum of current flowing through all conductors passed through its aperture. Under normal conditions this sums to zero; a leakage path to earth creates an imbalance the CBCT can detect.
What aperture size do I need?
Choose the smallest CBCT that comfortably fits over the conductors or busbar you are protecting — round apertures run 35mm to 310mm, with rectangular formats for larger bundles.
Can trip sensitivity and delay be adjusted on site?
Yes — the ELR allows trip level adjustment from 0.03A to 3A and time delay from 0 to 10 seconds, so it can be tuned to the installation without changing hardware.
Is the relay available in different mounting formats?
The ELR30 is available in both DIN rail mount and panel mount versions to suit different enclosure layouts.
